Networks built using the Wi-Fi technology to the IEEE802.11 series of standards, are generally referred to as wireless LAN. They use license-free frequency bands such as 2.4GHz and 5GHz; the maximum transmission distance is up to 100m, the highest transmission speed is 54Mbps for short range wireless technology. This has been applied to a variety of mobile devices and game consoles, from laptop PCs, iPod touch and phones such as the iPhone3G, to games consoles such as Nintendo DS, PSP, etc.
